Rouge Events

DC Site Services provided a fantastic waste disposal and cleaning service at our most recent event. The staff were friendly, hard working and were very patient when being faced with numerous requests!  I would definitely recommend DC Site Services to anyone looking for a good waste disposal and cleaning company at a reasonable price.  Thank you again to Matt and the team for all your hard work!

Alexandra Mooney

This is just a quick one on behalf of the team at ESC Events and our client 'The Sun'. I would like to thank you for all of your hard work in making The Sun Military Awards (Night of Heroes) such a huge success.  I really appreciate your help with the cleaning. Could you please pass thanks onto the crew that worked and special thanks must go to Eileen.

Early Company History

DC Site Services (also known as DCSS or DC) was established in 1993 by Dick and Janet Collins to recruit and manage staff for Greenfield events. DCSS prides itself on being a family run business that provides a professional service at a cost effective price.

DCSS | Festival and Event StaffDCSS supplies staff covering a wide variety of festival and event services including site management, site crew, festival and event stewards managing pedestrian movement, festival and event traffic marshals and car parking staff, festival and event litter, cleaning and recycling teams. DCSS was the first company to offer a service to supervise and ensure public safety in campsites provided by the promoters of three day events.

Dick and Janet Collins have been involved with UK festivals and events since the late 60s when they started supporting the local Samaritans fund raising team involved with the West Wycombe steam rally, an annual event of county show standing. The steam rally was the first to combine a rally during the day and a “pop” show at night with Neil Sedaka and Roy Wood topping the bill! Additional support was provided to the steam rally by the promoters of the Reading Festival and this led to Dick and Janet joining the Reading Festival event team. Dick and Janet worked at various shows over the following four years organised by the Reading Festival promoters, then took that experience and formed DC Site Services Ltd.

The DCSS staff base at festivals and events varies from students looking for extra money to help them through their studies, to professionals wanting an escape from the 9-5, and those who work at festivals and events year round. No matter the reason for applying to join DCSS our staff are well known for being fully committed to ensuring that the festival or event is a safe and happy environment for everyone and enjoy the experience so much they return year on year.

DCSS in the 1990s

From its small beginnings DCSS has grown year on year. Initially the company just provided a handful of staff, or perhaps it should be said gathering the family and available friends together to provide services to around ten events a year. By the late 90s DCSS had grown to approximately 150 staff providing services to around twenty events each year.

DCSS in the Noughties

The growth and requirement for improved recruitment and management techniques inspired the creation of the company website in 2001; initially built and maintained by Mark Hatchard (a close friend of the family and long standing member of DCSS staff) during his spare time whilst studying and later taken on by Mark’s Hampshire based Web Design Company Hotbox Studios. Hotbox Studios then went on to create the PAAM Event Management Software, launched in 2007. PAAM continues to aid DCSS every year with the recruitment and management of its festival and event staff.

Even in the early noughties it was never expected that DCSS would grow as rapidly as it did over the following years. The staff base quickly growing to over 350 and DCSS providing services to around thirty events each year, many running over the same weekend and located country wide! Due to the addition of small jobs and extra requests at short notice it was only at the end of 2005 that Dick and Janet realised that in a single year DCSS had employed over a thousand staff at more than fifty festivals and events!

Recent years

In recent years the UK festival and event industry has grown exponentially. That growth has brought increasing demands and requirements from legislation, regulations and guidance from the government and governing agencies. Dick and Janet have recognised this; that the industry is evolving and continuing to grow. As the end of the noughties approached, following more than forty years of involvement, Dick and Janet started considering both their retirement and the future of DCSS...

The future

Matt Hettle first worked for DCSS as a litter picker at a food and farming event at Hyde Park in 1992. Matt continued to work with DCSS each year alongside his fulltime job; taking time off to work at festivals and events. Matt quickly moved up in the company taking on supervisory roles running teams of staff including litter, cleaning, recycling, stewarding and traffic management.

With the experience and knowledge gained whilst working his way through the company, Matt left his fulltime job in the summer of 2011 and was taken on as a director of DCSS. Matt’s objective, with the support of his family and friends, is to continue this family business for many years to come...
